Twisting Gully
Today Gordon headed up to SCNL and climbed Twisting Gully which was is great condition. Teams on SC gully, Moonshadow, Central Grooves, East Face Direct and Dorsal. We descended down Broad Gully, on the way down I decided to nip up Dorsal, so I dumped my harness and rope and shot up in 4.5 mins and caught up with Gordon again before he got to the bags.
Curved Ridge
Today Grant and I went and climbed Curved Ridge. Again it was a really stunning day, kept on the sunglasses all day. We didn't see anyone else on the ridge with us, there was one team on the next ridge along. We made good time up the ridge, this was Grants first time on this type of ground which he found challenging and eventually he started to enjoy himself (I think!). We saw teams in Coire na Tulaich playing around with ropes and the Royal Navy helicopter playing around on the tops.
North Gully, SCNL
Today Grant and I headed up into Stob Coire nan Lochain for a little bit of sun bathing. Only joking, we looked at mountaineering skills that would be needed for moving up and down easy snow gullies. We looked at bucket seats, buried axe's, T-axes, bollards, stompers, slings and spikes, simple rope work and knots (it does get easier Grant!). We went up North Gully (I) which had monster cornices hanging over above us, we then walked up to the summit and descended Easy Gully (I). Teams out on SC, NC, Twisting and lots of walkers enjoying the alpine weather.
Inclination
Today Kenny, Gaz and I had a super early start and headed up to SCNL to get a route in before the winds and snow came in later in the afternoon. We got up to the crag and it was perfect condition, no wind, nice and white, no ice choking the cracks, bomber turf . . .etc. We climbed Inclination (VII,8). Gaz did the first pitch, Kenny took the next two, which included the crux, Gaz did one more then I did the exit pitch. Every pitch had great climbing on it. Teams out on Dorsal, NC, Twisting and more. I'm away for a week, so no climbing for a while.
Mamores
Today I was out with 3 members of the Glencoe MRT, two aspirant members and one full member. They wanted to build on their winter knowledge including navigation, safe and efficient movement, self arresting, step cutting, route planning and using an emergency shelter. We headed up from Mamore Lodge into Coire na Ba, up onto the ridge between Na Gruagaichean and Stob Coire a Chairn and followed the ridge over to Am Bodach. Weather held out OK today, a cold wind but not to strong and mainly clear skies.
Last Post
This was my 4th day out with Ben and he was really keen to get on a Grade 5 classic. I did the 1st pitch of the Last Post (V,5) yesterday, which was class so I was more than happy to go up again and tick off the route today. Very windy for some parts of the day with lots of spindrift coming down some of the routes and down my jacket! Teams on South Post Direct, Easy Gully, The Pumpkin and Postman Pat got an attempt as well, but I was on my way home before I found out how they did.
Creag Meagaidh
Today Kenny and I walked into Creag Meagaidh for a look to see what was going on. Plenty of ice visible whilst walking in. As the weather was due to worsen as the day went on we decided to have a short 'sport climbing' day. Kenny led up the first pitch of Missed the Post (V,5) and the we abbed off a v-thread. Then I led up the 1st pitch of Last Post (V,5) and again we abbed off. The ice was nice, steep and fat on both routes, we both got really wet on the Last Post as there was lots of water splashing down the route. South Post Direct and the The Last Post got climbed.
Aonach Mor
Today Rich and I got the gondola up to the ski tows and traversed over to the Nid area. We spent the day micro navigating around this area, heading further south into Coire an Lochain below the buttresses of Aonach Mor. Visibility was quite low throughout the day, winds were low until we got up higher out of the corrie and it was fairly mild today with the snow pack quite saturated.
