The Matterhorn requires very little introduction and is regarded as the most sought after mountain in the Swiss Alps. It borders the swiss town of Zermatt and the Italian town of Breuil-Cervinia in the Aosta Valley and with its near-symmetrical pyramidal peak, it is easily distinguishable from many other alpine peaks. The 3 achievable route options are the classic Hornli Ridge, the Lion ridge and the North Face. All providing a fantastic challenge and all with a great deal of technical difficulty. It is advisable that you have a good resume of climbing and mountaineering before attempting the Matterhorn, so I will suggest to have some ‘Matterhorn specific’ training days leading up to the attempt.
